Can Purdy Grab His Opportunity?

Sometimes an opportunity comes your way that you might not have been expecting.

It can be a life-changing opportunity and one that you’ve been waiting for.

Sometimes it can arrive through the misfortune of others, but nevertheless it is something that you just have to grasp with both hands.

This Saturday, over in Atlantic City, Lee Purdy has a wonderful chance to plant his name firmly in the history books as the IBF Welterweight Champion of the World.

Purdy will venture outside of the UK for the first time in his career to take on Devon Alexander courtesy of the unfortunate Kell Brook missing his date with destiny due to a foot injury.

Alexander is a decent champion and has a record of 24 victories from his 25 fights but Purdy isn’t fazed about facing him in his backyard, with the boy from Essex quoted as having remarked ahead of the bout,

“I’m in great shape and I’m ready to put a big statement out there.”

“I’m not going to let Devon out-box me. I’m going to put my heart and soul into this fight and come out victorious.”

“It doesn’t matter where the ring is in the world. It’s the ring at the end of the day, and Devon that’s going to be in front of me.”

Ahead of the fight Purdy, who hold the IBF International title, has a record of 20 wins from 24 fights and many consider him to be the under-dog, but then again, didn’t they say something similar when the un-fancied Lloyd Honeyghan travelled to the USA to take on the legendary Don Curry and returned home as the NEW champion of the world.

Come on Lee, we’ll be cheering you on!

It'll be a huge ask of Purdy but, as you say, did anyone give Lloyd a real chance and he did it!
