Thompson Ready To Roll Price Over (Again)

This Saturday, at the Liverpool Echo Arena, much has been said about the need for David Price to get his career back on track in the re-match with Tony Thompson.

In their first encounter Thompson knocked out Price with a punch that floored the Liverpool fighter who was, at the time, unbeaten.

Now whilst Price may be perfectly aware that the fight, this Saturday night, is a career defining night, it is also a fight that the American also needs to win.

Back on February 2nd, it was thought that the forty-one year-old Thompson was heading into retirement but his demolition of Price has given him a new life and now the American senses that the twilight of his career could be something to behold.

Talking to the media ahead of the fight, Thompson has spoken about his preparations for the contest and also that one punch that stopped Price in his tracks, commenting,

“Training camp has been excellent. It actually has been one of the best camps in the last few years.”

“The last fight was so quick that we didn’t learn anything. It is a new start for everybody and we have put forth a whole new game plan for this fight.”

“I don’t think he will let me catch him with the same punch. I don’t know if he will hold back but I do see him being more careful and he has a little more respect for the older guy.”

However, whilst everyone recognizes that it is a fight that Price must win, Thompson has also pointed out that if he doesn’t win then his career, instead of being on an upward spiral will not only stall but plummet back towards the retirement zone with Thompson adding,

“I have to beat Price. Losing puts me right back in the same spot that it did before the first fight and at my age (41) I am not looking to start over.”

But, with it being a career defining fight for both pugilists, Thompson doesn’t appear to be surprised that Price took up the option of a re-match, remarking,

“I am not surprised he took the rematch right away. He is a competitor but I am in great shape and I believe I will win on July 6th”

All in all it promises to be a night to remember. Can Price avenge the only defeat of his professional career or will the power Thompson possesses carry the American fighter to greater things at such a late age?

Don’t blink, these are heavyweights involved here and we know that anything can happen!
