Brook – On the Right Track

Contrary to what some people might think!

When you are on the verge of challenging for a world title, selecting opponents to fight in that period whereby injury has prevented a world title fight and securing another one, is a hard thing to do.

Kell Brook dismantled the rated American fighter, Carson Jones, last time out and whilst he waits for his world title shot, he is now signed up to fight the Ukrainian fighter Vyacheslav Senchenko at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, on October 26th.

Now to us, here at Vital Boxing, it looks a decent match-up. The Ukrainian has had 34 fights, winning 33 and has shown what he is capable of by sending Ricky Hatton into permanent retirement.

But some pundits are troubled by the choice of opponent, especially our friends across the pond. They reckon Eddie Hearn, who promised a big-name opponent for Brook, has taken an easy option, stating that Senchenko’s record has been fattened up by fighting virtual nobodies.

Here at Vital Boxing we’d dispute the suggestion that Senchenko is an easy opponent. His record stands up to debate and the fact that Brook already had a world title fight, with Devon Alexander, booked until injury intervened means Hearn has to be careful. Brook needs to be biding his time but remaining active against the sort of opponent Senchenko is, not be put in with somebody that could drain the tank in an exhausting contest.

The world title fight is there for the taking, only the foolish would risk it with an act of bravado just to appease our friends across the pond!
