'If It's Boxing, It's Vital'

Barker Dedicates His Win

And what an emotional scene it was!

Following on from Darren Barker’s magnificent win, in Atlantic City, over Daniel Geale last night, a win that made him the IBF middleweight champion of the world, the world of boxing has united in congratulating the Barnet fighter on his achievement.

Many have suggested that if there was one boxer who deserved to win the world title then it was Darren, even more so after the turbulent journey he’s been down since his career started.

Stood in the ring, with tears in his eyes, Darren paid tribute to his late brother Gary, who died in a car-crash, dedicating his win to him. Darren, as you’d also expect, praised Geale telling the ring interviewer,

'Not many people know the journey I've been through.'

'It's been a real Rocky story.”

I dedicate this to my late brother. Everything I've done is for him.'

'I take my hat off to Daniel Geale.'

“He's a great champion and a tough, tough man”

He caught me right in the solar plexus and completely took my breath away from me.'

'I was in absolute bits. I was gone. But as the seconds went on my brother and daughter, they got into my head.”

I showed I've got heart and a lot of people didn't think I did.'

Well I’ll admit that there were tears in my eyes as I witnessed the emotional scenes after the scores had been read out, what about you?
