Crunch Time for Cleverly!

Following his shocking defeat at the hands of the big-hitting Russian, Sergey Kovalev, the Welsh fighter Nathan Cleverly talked about considering his future in Boxing.

Cleverly had promised himself that once he’d been beaten he’d walk away from the game, however, after a family holiday in Cyprus, Cleverly has had time to consider his options and reports suggest that a meeting is scheduled with his promoter, Frank Warren, tomorrow.

Discussing his fighters options Warren is quoted in the media as having remarked,

“We need to decide if he fights on, how he does it and what my involvement is going to be.”

“If he wants to carry on then he needs to get himself together and show everybody what he’s got.”

“I’ll look in his eyes – if he’s got the desire, he’s got the desire. If he hasn’t then he should pack it in or he will get hurt. He’s had a break now and we will see where he is.”

Wise words indeed from Frank Warren but I believe, that at 26 years of age, Nathan still has time on his side to rebuild his career and work his way back up to being the world champion again, however, he may need to take a different direction and, as the rumours are suggesting, switch training camps and go to the US, although this is an option that slightly irks Frank Warren who added in those same media comments,

“This America thing does my head in. It is as if to say we’re not capable over here. I just don’t get that one.”
