Joshua’s Next Opponent Announced

But does it meet with your approval?

Yesterday, whilst whiling away the weekend in a pleasant, but very wet away from it all caravan park, I pondered over who our young heavyweight, Anthony Joshua, might be matched up with next.

I pondered over the difficulty the fighters team would have in selecting an opponent for his second professional fight, but now we know who has been selected and I have to admit it could have been owrse but it could have been better with reference to his choice of opponents.

Apparently, Joshua will take on Paul Butlin in his second professional fight on the undercard of the Kell Brook v Vyachelav Senchenko, at the Motorpoint Arena, in Sheffield, a promotion that is under two weeks away.

Butlin will arrive in Sheffield with a record of 14-19, therefore having lost more than he’s won and the 3 knockouts on his record show that he’s not a big puncher. But what worries many is that Butlin’s recent record shows that he has lost 13 out of the last 15 and not looked particularly good during those fights.

Therefore, whilst we’re happy to see Joshua in action again, it doesn’t look as if the young Watford fighter will have any difficulty in making it 2 wins from 2 fights, but then again isn’t that the plan when it comes to building a budding professional career?

no rush to really test him yet. lets get him having regular fights and slowly increase the challenge. perhaps looking at a few durable old pros that will look to stick around is the way forward, as too many 1 & 2 rnd KOs tell us nothing. Saying that, after the disappointments of Price and the still questionable Fury, is he potentially the best equipped of all our heavyweights that have a longer future in the game? Obviously way too early to predict, but he has the basic qualities to be rated as such
