DeGale Talks World Title Ambitions

In a division that has several British fighters looking to make a huge impact on the world stage, one British fighter reckons he’s not too far from a world title shot.

Having lost that grudge match to George Groves, James DeGale has been steadily rebuilding his career and, on 16th November, will be looking to dispatch his latest opponent Dyah Davis.

As it happens, DeGale will fight a week before the massive Carl Froch v George Groves bout giving DeGale a chance to make a real statement of intent.

Speaking about what lies ahead, DeGale has remarked,

'I'm in a very good position at the moment. “

'I'm ranked highly by all the governing bodies and I'm hoping my promoter Mick Hennessy gets me a world title fight. I'm ready to step up and fight anyone.'

As for his opponent, Davis has already had his turn on the world stage having been beaten by Sakio Bika, for the WBC title, with Davis being stopped in the 10th round. However, his record remains decent with the American having won 22 of his 26 fights.

DeGale, weighing up what might impress those watching, added,

'If I can do better against him than Bika did, it would make a statement and show I'm ready for a world title fight.”

'He [Bika] has got the WBC world title and with me being the WBC Silver champion and currently ranked highly by them, it's maybe a fight that could happen.”

'Then you've got Froch and Groves. I don't care which of those wins, I just want to keep doing my thing and hopefully fight the winner.'

But, as we’ve always said in the past, a safety first approach is preferable in a game where one punch can change everything, prompting DeGale to comment about Davis,

'He's got a good pedigree and is someone I'll need to be sharp to beat. I think Davis will give me a real test, but what I want to do is go in there and look good against him.'

I’ve no doubt DeGale will, he’s a boxer with ambition and having tasted defeat against Groves, he’ll not want to do so again, but whether he can beat that 10th round stoppage remains to be seen!
