Will There Be a Froch v Groves II?

Immediately after the controversial ending to the fight last night there were calls that a re-match should be held.

Initially it’s thought that early in the spring of 2014 would be a suitable date, even more so when Edie Hearn, who promotes both fighters seemed determined that a re-match should take place.

However, in the cold-light of day, perhaps that might not be the case.

Whilst Froch may have boasted, after the fight, that he’s prepared to box anyone and there is a belief that there are three or four more fights left in the tank, last night, in my opinion, showed that Froch isn’t the fighter he once was.

The younger Groves took the fight to the champion, floored him for the first time in four years and had him hurt several times. It was almost as if Froch couldn’t cope with Groves speed of punch and that his youthfulness and confidence had eroded his self-belief.

After the fight Groves almost demanded a re-match and, this morning, on Sky Sports News, continued that plea from outside the Salford hotel he’d stayed at. Whereas Froch, last night, half-heartedly agreed Groves had possibly done enough to earn a re-match although intimating he might want to go down a different route.

My personal opinion is that Froch will try and avoid another clash with Groves even though his pre-fight mantra was all about finishing the gallant challengers’ career at the tender age of 25.

It never quite worked out that way did it Carl!
