Coyle Wins Crazy Fight

Topping the bill at the Hull Ice Arena, on Saturday night, was an IBF international lightweight title fight between Tommy Coyle and Daniel Brizuela.

If Curtis Woodhouse winning the British title was the unexpected moment of the night then the fight between Coyle and Brizuela was the epic fight of the night.

In what was to be the craziest fight of the night, both fighters hit the canvas a staggering four times.

The action started when Coyle was dropped in the second round, by a right hand. The knockdown saw Coyle having to box on the back-foot. Further knockdowns saw Coyle down, from a body-shot in the sixth and again later in the same round.

But Coyle wasn’t going to give up and in round eight, after being docked a point for a low-blow, send his Argentine opponent to the canvas later in the round. It was noticeable that Brizuela’s legs were wobbly a she returned to his corner when the bell sounded.

The ninth round saw Brizuela also penalised for a low blow that saw Coyle down on the canvas whilst a clash of heads, in round ten, saw a cut open above the Argentine’s left eye. The following round, the eleventh, saw Coyle hit the canvas again after some punishing left hooks to the body.

Defiantly climbing to his feet and beating the count. Coyle unleashed a punch of his own that saw Brizuela crash to the canvas. Although he beat the count a further onslaught from Coyle saw him hit the canvas again.

Anxiously trying to finish Brizuela off, Coyle was again penalised for hitting on the break. Entering the last round Coyle had his opponent down again with a big right hand. Once again he defied logic to climb to his feet but when he was knocked over for a fourth time the referee stopped the contest despite the Argentine beating the count.

One crazy fight but, in our opinion, the fight of the night an action packed encounter that had the arena going mad.
