Groves Looks Ahead to Saturday and Beyond

On Saturday evening, at the Wembley Arena, George Groves will climb back into the ring again, against Christophe Rebrasse.

After two defeats at the hands of Carl Froch, Groves is only too aware that a third defeat on the bounce would make life, to put it mildly, uncomfortable.

Groves is perfectly aware of this and is quoted as having remarked,

'This is more important than any other fight I've had.'

“I lost my last fight and if I lose this one there will be some serious things that need addressing.'

I’d go so far as to say that a third defeat could see the end of George Groves at this level.

But what has George learned from the last two fights that he’ll bring to the ring this time, with Groves further adding,

'If I take anything away from those last two fights, it is that I belong at that level. I had the beating of Carl in both fights and was a little bit unlucky.'

'Full credit to him for getting the punch off but up until that point I felt like we were in control.”

And as for a third fight with Froch?

It isn’t something that George has ruled out, commenting,

'Certainly, there will be a temptation there to fight me because he does not like me. The first interview he gave after the fight, he told me to crawl back into the hole where I came from and he has taken swipes at me ever since.”

'For a man who has won two fights, he should not be so bitter and have so much contempt towards me. For whatever reason, he's struggling with the win.”

Some decent points made there.

But what of the future, where does George see his immediate career going, this is what George had to say,

'If I can get through this fight with no injuries, then maybe we can get a fight before Christmas and start the New Year as the WBC champion, but Saturday comes first.”

'Then if we win the WBC belt, you could be talking about a unification fight against Froch or DeGale, if DeGale picks up the IBF title.”

'I look forward to both fights. I've performed well when I've faced them before and I know I can do better.'

It looks like Groves still, despite those two defeats, has the hunger and desire to succeed at this level.

We wish him well for Saturday night.
