Brook v Khan - Do the Date Maths!

As the war-of-words continues between Floyd Mayweather Junior and Amir Khan, the prospect of Kell Brook getting into the mix looms large.

We’re yet to see if the talk of Mayweather taking on Khan simply to put him on his backside, where he reckons he belongs, is real or just more trash talk.

But back home in Sheffield, Brook’s trainer, the enigmatic Dominic Ingle, reckons his charge, Brook, is ready for Khan now and doesn’t need a warm-up fight to take on Khan, commenting to the media,

'To be honest, Kell is 28-years-old, he's had 33 fights and once you can train for a 12-round fight, have been to America and won a world title, what do you need a warm-up fight for?'

'He's had a couple of years of warm-up fights, so it doesn't really matter.”

'If that [a Khan fight] has to be the next fight, that's what the next fight is. If Eddie Hearn decides that, that's what it is, the money is there, he might as well do it because time is ticking away.'

Brave and bold talk, but do the dates work out?

Following the altercation in Tenerife, Brook is unlikely to fight again until February. Khan is expected to return to the ring in December as he hunts down that May 2015 date with Mayweather, it seems hugely unlikely that Khan will fight in December, February and then May and fights in February and May might come too soon.

Therefore, Dominic is probably right when he adds,

'I know Khan is chasing Mayweather but we need Khan before he gets to Mayweather, basically.”

'That's the big fight and if Kell gets rid of Khan he's got to be a legitimate opponent for Floyd Mayweather.'

Probably, but my feeling is that Khan and Brook will only meet in the ring if there is no chance of Khan getting that Mayweather bout, how about you?
