DeGale Puts on a Career Defining Performance

If there is one super-middleweight that, in my opinion, continues to look better every time I see him it is James DeGale.

On the brink of a shot at the IBF super-middleweight title, many question DeGale's team for taking a fight against an opponent who many consider to be world-class in Antonio Periban.

Fight pundits were of the opinion that DeGale might be in for a tricky night, however as has been the case in his last few fight not only did DeGale pull something out of the bag but he looked pretty impressive in doing so

In Liverpool last night DeGale did something to Periban that no other fighter had done, he stopped him. But he stopped him in emphatic style catching him with some thunderous punches that took him out in sensational style.

Following his superb third round win, DeGale had a few words for the media, remarking,

“He's never been stopped, Sakio Bika couldn't stop him and I was only getting warmed up. That left hand is my shot at the moment. I hit him and he was stumbling around, he wasn't in a position to carry on.

'I'll come out and watch George Groves but don't worry about him, I am the mandatory for the IBF title - I want to make history.

'I like Carl but it feels like he doesn't want to fight me, I respect him but I think he's being a bit of a coward not fighting me - fight me or vacate the title.'

At the moment I’d take DeGale to beat both Groves and Froch but it would, as DeGale says, another route he’ll be taking with his promoter, Eddie Hearn, remarking after the fight,

'The Froch fight is a great fight, the Groves fight is a great fight, but James will fight for a World title in his next fight whomever there is.'

And on this form it’d take a brave man to bet against DeGale not becoming champion of the world!
