Warrington Out-Classes Tuberion

Although one-sided, it was a decent fight!

At the First Direct Arena, in Leeds, last night, the returning hero Josh Warrington, gave an emphatic display of boxing skills to comprehensively beat the brave challenger, Dennis Tuberion in an official eliminator for the WBC featherweight title.

The scorecards showed just how dominant Warrington was with the verdicts being given as:

• 119-109
• 119-110
• 119-109

But what they don’t show is that despite looking to be on the verge of being knocked out several times, the man from the Philippines refused to give in and continued to make Warrington work until the final whistle.

The bout was tagged as an official eliminator for the WBC title currently held by the American Gary Russell Junior but in the hullabaloo that follows the announcement of a result, it appeared that the Warrington camp are looking in the direction of Lee Selby who fights for the IBF version of the featherweight crown on May 30th.

After extending his record to 21-0, Warrington had this to say to his enthusiastic and very vociferous supporters,

'I've got plenty more to bring'

And on Selby’s attempt to win the world title.

'I wish him all the best and I hope he gets the world title.”

Whilst Selby, who was sat ringside, had this to say about a proposed match-up,

'I think I'm well ahead of him but he is improving with every fight. It won't be long before I will be fighting him in front of this fantastic crowd.'

A venue being suggested is Elland Road, home of Warrington’s side Leeds United.

In winning last night, Warrington added the WBC International title to a list that already includes – the European, Commonwealth and British featherweight titles.
