Saunders v Eubank Re-Match Draws Nearer

Anyone hoping to see both Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Junior in action at the SSE Wembley Arena, on Saturday 9th May, is going to be disappointed.

It has been announced today that both have withdrawn from the show as, it appears, negotiations get under way for the pair to have a re-match later this summer. The first fight between the bitter rivals saw Saunders get a split decision.

Since that bout both fighters, via social network sites, have been goading each other about getting back into the ring for a re-match.

In beating Eubank, Saunders was elevated to the position of mandatory challenger for the WBO version of the world title. The title is currently held by the Irish fighter Andy Lee but Saunders has been informed by the WBO President Francisco Valcarcel that Lee, due to an injury, will not be able to defend his belt this summer.

A request has apparently been made for Saunders to fight for the WBO Interim world title, meaning that Saunders has been pulled from the Wembley show.

Eubank meanwhile, who is the WBA Interim title holder, after beating Dmitry Chudinov, was destined to make his first defence of that title at Wembley. The son of Chris Eubank Senior has also been pulled from the bill with the reason being that he wants to prepare for a big blockbuster show this summer.

Aware of what is being planned the WBO has stated that an agreement needs to be made in the next 48 hours or else Saunders will be matched against another opponent.
