Mayweather v Golovkin? – No Way!

After his win over Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Junior took his record to 48-0.

Listening to the brash, flash fighter, it currently seems that he does really intend to quit after fight number 49, mirroring the achievements of one Rocky Marciano.

But the big question still to be answered is who will Mayweather climb into the ring to face in what is being labeled as his last fight?

Our own Amir Khan would love to be just that man, believing that he has the hand-speed to cause Mayweather all sorts of problems.

There’s also talk, doing the rounds, inferring that Manny Pacquiao could get a re-match, although considering Pacquiao is out for a year, after surgery on his shoulder, I wouldn’t hold out to much hope.

But, away from the normal suggestions, the clamour is growing for Mayweather to go out in a blaze of glory.

Many pundits are suggesting that the brash American should move up in weight and take on the unbeaten Gennady Golovkin.

The match-up looks intriguing but fraught with danger.

Could Mayweather cope with the onslaught that would come his way from a fighter that operates at a weight level higher than him and who has stopped his last twenty opponents?

My view is that it won’t happen, the Mayweather of 2015 isn’t the Mayweather of five, six or even seven years ago. Age has dimmed the beautiful skills he possessed and although Mayweather’s ,mantra constantly suggests that money is all that is about, do you really believe that he’d risk that 48-0 record against the fighting machine from Eastern Europe?
