Mitchell Vows to Stop Linares

On Saturday night, at the O2 Arena, many are suggesting that the East End lightweight, Kevin Mitchell, has the toughest fight of the night.

Mitchell is bidding to take the WBC lightweight title off of the Venezuelan fighter Jorge Linares.

At the weigh-in this afternoon, Mitchell came in just under the 135 pound limit whilst Linares was forced to shed an extra four ounces after coming in just over the weight limit.

Ahead of the bout Mitchell appears extremely confident that he can make it third time lucky when he comes to world title bouts after losing his previous two.

Linares has an impressive record whereby he’s won 38 of his 41 bouts, but Mitchell has spotted some flaws and is determined to wrench the belt from the champion, remarking,

'Linares is on the slide, 100%. I promise you I'm going to knock this kid out.

'Four years ago he was great but he was always suspect around the chin.

'He's been chinned a couple of times at lightweight, which is big encouragement for me, and his last six fights haven't been against great opposition.

'You've got to be cautious against a world-class operator like him but I don't think he's got enough power to bother me.

'When I'm on form, there's nothing wrong with my chin. He'll be tricky, he'll be fast and cautious for the first four or five rounds. But when I get hold of him he will go down.'

Under the guidance of his trainer Tony Sims, Mitchell has got his career back on track, will Saturday night at the O2 Arena be the defining moment?
