The DeGale v Groves Saga!

Losing to a fellow fighter can have a strange effect on some fighters, whilst others simply take it in their stride and move on.

Anthony Joshua doesn’t seem too fazed at having been beaten by Dillian Whyte in his amateur days whereas others, like James DeGale seek some kind of revenge.

DeGale, beaten by George Groves, has since gone on to become the IBF super-middleweight champion, doing something Groves failed to do, namely winning the title on US soil.

Now before the events of Saturday night, in Las Vegas when George Groves lost his WBC title challenge to Badou Jack, DeGale was talking up a possible huge domestic clash with the Hammersmith fighter, possibly at Wembley Stadium.

Following the loss suffered by Groves, DeGale’s tweet suggested he was a little miffed that the big opportunity to take Groves on and avenge that defeat whilst also claiming a second world title, which is understandable

However, we’re hearing that De Gale was gracious enough to offer Groves a way back to the big-time, offering his fellow super-middleweight a fight.

But the stores we’re hearing were that the revenue split was always going to see Groves decline with DeGale wanting a 90:10 split.

If that was the case you have to ponder whether DeGale’s desire to avenge that defeat burns as brightly now that Groves isn’t able to bring a world title belt to the table.

Stories also suggest that DeGale has his eyes on Badou Jack’s belt but, unfortunately, it isn’t a fight that will generate as much interest or revenue as one involving Groves, it doesn’t quite have the interest level does it!
