Murray Would Take Saunders Fight

It wasn’t that long ago that the St Helens fighter Martin Murray informed the world that he felt far more comfortable as a super-middleweight as opposed to boxing at middleweight.

His progress at super-middleweight saw him take on Arthur Abraham for his world title belt, but Murray didn’t, despite a valiant attempt, get the decision.

Now having made four brave challenges for world titles, Murray is probably realistic enough to know that he’s not going to be given many more chances to hear those magical words from the ring announcer – and the NEW…….

Perhaps that might explain why the suggestion has hit the tabloid press that Murray is willing to face Billy Joe Saunders for his recently attained WBO world middleweight title.

If that were to be the case then Murray would have to drop back down to the weight he doesn’t feel so comfortable at.

However, whether Saunders is willing to take up the challenge after taking the belt off of Andy Lee remains to be seen.

There is talk of a unification match with the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet Gennady Golovkin, a fight that could be extremely lucrative for Saunders with a purse, said to be of the magnitude of £4 million available.

Plus, there’s also the enticing prospect of a Saunders v Eubank Junior II option on the horizon.

Will Murray get a chance to take on Saunders, my view is that it’ll not happen.
