Walsh Retains British Featherweight Title

At the York Hall, Bethnal Green last night, the Cromer fighter Ryan Walsh, knocked out Aberdeen's Darren Traynor to make a successful first defence of his British featherweight crown.

In what was a great scrap both fighters wasted no time in getting down to the action.

The second round saw Walsh caught by a powerful over-hand right that saw his legs wobble but the Cromer fighter quickly recovered.

Both fighters were operating behind their jabs before Walsh started to up the pace in the third round.

Walsh started to catch Traynor with some good combinations and opened up a bad cut above Traynor's right eye.

Walsh had control in the fourth round and the finish was to come in the fifth when Traynor was caught with a right, three left hooks an another right before the referee decided enough was enough and the bout was stopped.

Talking about the win, Walsh had this to say.

'It's amazing to start the year off with a big win and a big performance. Darren was a tough opponent and put up a good fight for the first few rounds until my accuracy and power came through and I found myself landing at will and I knew then it was only a matter of time before I nailed him.

'In the fifth round I could see that I was hurting him and then I landed a beautiful combination starting with the right hand and three left hooks and a final right hand to send him crashing through the ropes and I knew he wasn't going to be getting up, thankfully the ref called it off.'

Congratulations to Ryan Walsh on a fantastic performance.
