'If It's Boxing, It's Vital'

Eubank Jnr Reflects on Saturday Night

Being crowned as the British middleweight champion, on Saturday night, saw Chris Eubank realise a dream.

Unfortunately, the celebrations were somewhat muted when it became obvious that the deposed champion, Nick Blackwell, was in a serious condition and receiving medical assistance.

As I write Blackwell is still in an induced coma as the medical team looking after him wait for the clearance to bring him out of a coma.

Today Team Eubank held a press conference and Chris Eubank Jnr spoke about the fight on Saturday night at the SSE Arena, in London, remarking,

'We don't go in there to cause that type of damage to an opponent. It is never anything personal.

'When I heard the news about Nick it was tough to hear, no fighter wants to see the man after the fight in any type of serious condition. I'm not going in there to damage someone, I just went in to fulfil a lifelong ambition and become British champion.'

When asked whether the incident would affect his own motivation as a fighter, Eubank Jnr replied,

'Not at all. As fighters, we know the risks. We know we're risking our health every time we step into the ring but it is a risk we're willing to take. With these risks, comes great rewards.

'I've been boxing since I was 15. You read up on stories of fighters that end up with injuries. You know the risk, but you train as hard as you can. If you go into a fight thinking you will get hurt, you most likely will. You need to go into a fight thinking you're untouchable.

'I can't stress enough how quickly I want Nick to make a full recovery.'

And that last line echoes our own sentiments here at Vital Boxing.
