'If It's Boxing, It's Vital'

The Forgotten Man of the UK Heavyweight Scene

The UK heavyweight scene is vibrant at the moment.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury both hold versions of the world title and look set to be heading, if both can hold on to their titles, towards a huge domestic showdown.

Also re-emerging is Dereck Chisora, a fighter keen for another world title shot, plus we have the unbeaten Hughie Fury who is looking to, in the future, emulate the achievements of his cousin Tyson.

But one man has fast turned into the forgotten man of the heavyweight scene in this country – David Price.

The Liverpudlian fighter looked destined for great things until he ran up against the veteran American fight, Tony Thompson, and was knocked out twice.

Rebuilding his career, Price was doing okay until he fought Erkan Teper last July.

Price suffered another knockout and it appeared that the road back for Price was a long one.

However, Teper, subsequently failed a drugs test and, as you’d expect, received a ban of two years.

However, Price has since been left in limbo, the result of the fight remains and, subsequently, Price has slipped out of the rankings.

Talking about the situation to the media, Price has remarked,

'I have been cheated and I deserve something back.

'The very least should be once I'm active again and winning, Teper is removed and I'm reinstated back into the top 15.

'Instead of being put to the back of the queue, I deserve to be back where I was before I was cheated. In any other sport that would happen.

'There's opportunities awaiting ranked fighters and I won't be denied because I've been cheated.'

Price’s views are quite correct, the predicament he finds himself in should have been avoided and the fighter, who has three losses in twenty-two fights’ is keen to get back into action.

That happens when he boxes on the undercard of the Tony Bellew v Ilunga Makabu promotion at Goodison Park on May 29th May.

Here at Vital Boxing we wish him well.
