Canelo KO’s Khan in 6th Round

Last night, in Las Vegas, Amir Khan made a valiant attempt to take the WBC world middleweight title off of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

In making the attempt Khan had moved up two weight divisions, from light-welterweight to middleweight; whilst also agreeing to fight Canelo in what could be called his own backyard.

Khan, making his way to the ring, was vociferously booed by the majority of the Mexican support filling the T-Mobile Arena.

However, the man from Bolton looked focussed and after the ring introductions had been made, Khan got off to a quick start and probably edged a tight first round.

The second round saw Khan confuse Canelo with his fast hands, clever footwork and quick-fire combinations, with the Bolton man moving out of range after landing his blows.

The third round saw Khan produce much of the same with Canelo dumfounded by Khan’s speed and sheer volume of punches.

Although Khan had been out of the ring for a year, he was looking sharp and living up to his pre-fight promise that his speed would win him the fight.

The fourth saw Khan unleash several more combinations and was building up an early fight lead, although Canelo looked more puzzled by Khan’s punches than hurt.

However, the fifth round finally saw Canelo get to Khan and one combination clearly hurt the Bolton fighter.

The end of the fight came in round six when Khan let his guard down, momentarily, a huge right hand from Canelo caught him flush on the chin and the Bolton fighter was out before he hit the canvas.

Khan’s dream was over with twenty-three seconds of the round remaining.
