Bellew Ready for the Fight of his Life

On Sunday night, at Goodison Park, the home of Everton Football Club, Tony Bellew will be taking on Ilunga Makabu for the vacant WBC cruiserweight title.

The fight is expected to attract 20,000 fans to the famous old football ground for what should be a compelling fight.

Makabu will step into the ring with a record showing that he is a big-puncher having won 18 of his 20 fights by a knockout.

Ahead of the fight, in the build-up in midweek, Makabu has already stated that he isn’t going to hang about and will be looking to knockout Bellew in the early rounds.

However, 33-year-old Bellew remains confident that he can win the WBC cruiserweight title and ahead of the Sunday night fight has remarked to the media,

'I don't think he's got more power than me.

'I'll be the bigger man, I'll make it show and I am the real cruiserweight.

'The advantages he usually has in fights are through speed and power - he's normally faster than his opponents and punches harder than them too. In this fight, I don't think he'll have those against me.

'Every fight I go into, when I hit them, they change. I'm a nine-gear, fat racehorse and they'll see that on Sunday.'

Strong words from Bellew.

Responding, Makabu has also spoken to the media and insists he won’t be affected by the partisan crowd, remarking,

'People expect me to be scared of the occasion as the stadium will be full of his people cheering him and booing me.

'Tony must not wait for his people to get behind him to start fighting - as once we are in there, no-one can help him.'

Too close to call or is Makabu going to shade this one?
