Groves and Murray Exchange Words

On the under-card of the Anthony Joshua v Dominic Breazeale IBF world heavyweight title fight is a hugely anticipated super-middleweight fight.

The bout sees George Groves take on Martin Murray with the winner heading towards another tilt at a world title fight.

During their professional careers the two protagonists have amassed seven world title fights, Groves losing three and Murray losing on four occasions.

This Saturday could see either fighter facing the prospect of retirement if they don’t emerge victorious.

Groves, talking about this coming Saturday and the clash with Murray has remarked to the media,

'I am treating this like the last-chance saloon. If I can't beat Martin then I don't deserve to become a world champion.

'There are a lot of world champions out there and I want to be one of them.'

Groves is acutely aware of his three previous failures, two against Carl Froch and one against Badou Jack on a split decision, but still has that desire to become champion of the world, further adding,

'The longer it goes on the more you want it.

'When you are a kid you dream of becoming a world champion and I have an awful lot left to achieve.

'I think the loser packs it in.

'Martin's older than me and he's exhausted all the natural things a fighter can do.

'He didn't pull it off at middleweight, he's moved up to super-middleweight and he's had a crack at Arthur Abraham, who on paper he should be beating.

'I thought Martin could beat Arthur, but he let himself down there.'

Murray though, has ambitions of his own and in response to Groves, has replied,

'I've been in bigger fights than him all over the world against better opposition, he got his name by losing twice to Carl Froch.

'After Badou Jack I heard he was talking about retiring. He's come back and had two fights where he's been firing at sitting ducks, so he's got his confidence back now.

'Now he thinks that this is an easy fight. But it's not, when it gets tough he will crumble.'

Who is your money on?

I’ve just got this feeling that if Murray can drag Groves into the later rounds the victory will be his!
