Froch Not Sure About Groves!

On Saturday night at the 02 Arena, in an all-British showdown at super-middleweight, George Groves took on Martin Murray.

The fight would see the winner more-or-less guaranteed a crack at a world title whilst the loser would be faced with some hard decisions to make about their career.

As it turned out George Groves dominated the fight more-or-less from start to finish, taking the points decision by the same margin on all three score-cards, 118-110.

The result means that Groves, now working with Shane McGuigan as his trainer, has a fourth opportunity to become a world champion.

But, somebody who has twice beaten George at world title level, Carl Froch, still has his reservations about Groves becoming a world title holder.

Froch, working as a pundit for Sky Sports, had this to say about his old adversary,

“You’ve got to say George did all right – maybe even a little better than that.

“I am still not convinced he has a God-given right to win a world title but I can definitely see him getting another shot if he carries on like this.

“The jury is still out but I am going to be positive.

“There were signs that he is back and with trainer Shane McGuigan giving him a different outlook, he took a big step in the right direction.”

My view, here at Vital Boxing, is that Groves will make no mistake next time he fights for a world title, he looks a more rounded fighter after spending time with the McGuigan camp and, somewhere down the line, I can see a unification match with James DeGale who would surely be desperate to avenge the defeat Groves inflicted upon him, even more so if two world title belts were on the line.
