DeGale – Not One For Longevity

We’re in that part of the year when Boxing is placed on the back-burner.

Whilst those who participate in the professional game continue to maintain their fitness levels and stay in shape for up-coming fights, promotions are very few and far between as the rest of the world celebrates the festive break.

The next big promotion featuring a British world title holder will take place in early January, in New York, when James DeGale and Badou Jack go head-to-head in a unification belt where the winner will walk away with the IBF and WBC belts.

Ahead of the big clash DeGale has spoken to the media and it seems that the British boxer is already looking forward to the day he can hang his gloves up, with DeGale surprisingly telling the media,

“If I keep winning, I’ll be gone in a couple of years.

“Boxing is all I know but I don’t want to be in this game for a long time.

“It’s so hard and I’m starting to ache. I’m only 30 but I’m moaning.

“The outcome of the Jack fight will determine who is the world’s best super-middleweight.

“When I am recognised as the best, it won’t be difficult for me to walk away.”

Some interesting thoughts there from the IBF champion, but will he walk away and stay away, or will the desire be there to come back, one day, to prove himself again?

Your thoughts on the subject matter would be most appreciated.
