Haye Suggests a Fence Might Keep the Peace

A week Saturday, the nation will tune in to watch David Haye and Tony Bellew go head-to-head in a heavyweight fight.

That’s if the fight goes ahead.

Already, in the build-up, we’ve seen the two fighters pulled apart after insults were exchanged and a punch was thrown.

This Monday, as the final promotional tour for the bout hits Bellew’s home city of Liverpool, the under-current of bad-feeling threatens to burst through the fine fabric holding the peace together.

Ahead of the duo going head-to-head again, David Haye has come up with the suggestion that perhaps the head-to-head should go ahead with a fence between the pair, just as Haye had when he last had a challenging fight, against Dereck Chisora.

Talking about the suggestion Haye has remarked to the media,

“The fence worked for the Chisora fight.

“There needs to be some protection between us and a human being is not enough protection.

“It getting called off this late would be an absolute nightmare. Imagine both of us being in great shape, then he pushes me and I react and then it is messy.

'When tensions are high and when guys are scared they do crazy things.

'I'm going to make sure he is not in striking distance. I'd love to have confidence that he will keep his hands to himself but I don't have any confidence in him, in his mental state. Hopefully there will be some sort of precautions put in place.'

How about just behaving yourselves and acting in the graceful manner our sport deserves instead of turning it into something akin to a WWE circus?

Or is that too much to ask?
