Parker v Fury Date Confirmed

With Joseph Parker and Hughie Fury having signed on the dotted line to meet in a defence of the Kiwi boxers’ WBO heavyweight title belt, it seems the fight date has been moved and the location confirmed.

The fight will now take place in Auckland, New Zealand, on May 6th.

It will be Parker’s first defence of the title since winning the belt vacated by Hughie’s cousin Tyson, with the Kiwi beating the Mexican boxer, Andy Ruiz, on points.

Hughie Fury, cousin of former world heavyweight champion Tyson, will fight New Zealand's Joseph Parker for the WBO heavyweight title in Auckland on 6 May.

Both boxers are unbeaten although at 25-years-of-age, Parker is three years older than Hughie.

When asked about taking on Parker, Hughie had this to say to the media,

'I do rate Parker as one of the best heavyweights at the minute but I believe I am the best heavyweight out there.

'Tyson has already done it, I'm the next one in line. Trust me I'm bringing that title back. Whatever he brings I've got an answer for it.

'I'll win this title and then Tyson can come back and we'll rule the heavyweight division together.'

Although Hughie has great belief in himself it is Parker who most pundits reckon will emerge the victor, with victory against Fury possibly leading to heavyweight unification fights against our very own IBF champion Anthony Joshua and the big punching WBC title holder Deontay Wilder.

Continuing on the theme of unification fights, Parker’s promoter, David Higgins, has confirmed talks have already taken place with representatives of both Joshua and Wilder.

Exciting times ahead in the heavyweight division.
