Flanagan Talks of Meeting Linares Next

The lightweight division is generating a fair amount of column inches at the moment.

After Anthony Crolla’s unsuccessful attempt at wrestling back the WBA belt he lost to Jorge Linares in a re-match, the attention now starts to switch to Terry Flanagan.

Flanagan holds the WBO version of the lightweight belt and makes a defence of it against the Russian fighter, Petr Petrov, in Manchester on April 8th.

The 27-year-old views this defence, his fifth, as being the key to the big-time opening up opportunities for big fights.

One such fight could possibly be against Linares with Flanagan remarking about Crolla’s conqueror,

'I think I can beat Linares.

'I think I have the style to beat him.

'Anthony Crolla was made for Linares. I wouldn't be walking in like Crolla was. I truly believe I'm the best in the division.”

There could also be a showdown with his Manchester rival Crolla, with Flanagan further adding,

'If people want the Manchester showdown with Anthony that is possible if the money is right but first and foremost I want the unification fights.'

But it seems that Linares is the next intended opponent for Flanagan with his promoter, Frank Warren, remarking to the media,

“I don’t want to count our chickens but if Terry comes through, that is the match we want next.”

The big question remains though, will Flanagan fare any better against Linares than Crolla has on two occasions?

Nevertheless, it is a fight we’ll look forward too immensely if it is made.
