Saunders Looking for Winner of Golovkin v Alvarez

This weekend, the middleweight division dominates the scene.

In the US, in what is being described as the biggest fight for many-a-year, Gennady Golovkin puts his collection of belts on the line against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

In the UK, Billy Joe Saunders makes a defence of his WBO belt against Willie Monroe Jnr.

For Saunders it is a first return to the ring since he fought last December.

A win, for 28-year-old Saunders, could set up a unification fight against the winner of the huge clash between Golovkin and Alvarez, with Saunders remarking to the media about his long absence from the ring,

'The inactivity has been stressful, but you deal with it.”

However, Monroe Jnr, who has been beaten by Golovkin, has laughed off the suggestion Saunders could get a fight against the winner of the mega-fight, remarking to the media
,
'Canelo said he didn't even know who he was.

'I know he showed up to a couple of their press conferences and Canelo and Golovkin pretty much said the same thing: he talks too much.'

However, a win could also see Saunders elect to move up a weight but his promoter, Frank Warren, remains adamant he can secure a fight against the winner of the Golovkin v Alvarez bout, further adding,

'It's the only way the winner of the Golovkin-Canelo fight can unify the titles, and that's the logical fight.

'We will make it happen. I'm absolutely confident, we will deliver it.

'If it's Canelo it'll be in the States, and if it's Golovkin we may have a chance of staging it in the UK. If Golovkin wins, it looks like they'll want to fight some time in December.'

But first, Saunders must make sure there’s no slip up against the experienced Monroe Jnr.

It should be quite a fight.
