Mayweather Outclasses Alvarez in Vegas

Over the pond Floyd Mayweather Junior showed that the term legend is one that is truly deserved.

In Las Vegas, Mayweather, defending his 44 fight unbeaten record took on the Mexican challenger Saul Alvarez, who was also defending an unbeaten record of 43 fights.

Pre-fight, many boxing pundits reckoned that Alavrez could be the one to end Mayweather’s unbeaten run, but the legend that is Floyd had vastly different ideas.

In a boxing master-class Mayweather outclassed Alvarez to stretch that unbeaten run to 45 fights and securing the WBC and WBA light-middleweight titles.

But, as was the case in Glasgow recently when Ricky Burns fought, the judging proved to be contentious.

Whilst two of the three judges gave Mayweather the fight by margins of 116-112 and 117-111, one judge had it, remarkably, 114-114.

Speaking about his victory, Mayweather remarked afterwards,

'It is about skills.'

'I came out and showed my skills.”

'I just listened to my corner, listened to my dad [Floyd Sr, who is also his trainer]. My dad had a brilliant game-plan and I went out there and got the job done.''

Whereas the beaten Alvarez was forced to admit,

'I didn't know how to get him - it's extremely simple.''

'We tried to catch him but he's a great fighter, very intelligent. There was no solution for him.'

It remains to be seen who Mayweather’s next opponent will be!
